Two Words: Meditteranean Waters

I should be packing, but I don't feel like it. We leave at 11pm tonight, so I've got time. I don't know how much I've talked about our vacation here, because I've only been posting sporadically over the past few months. Basically, we're going to be gone for just over 2 weeks, spending 10 days or so in Spain and Morocco, and then spending 6 days in New York City on our way back.

To say I am excited is the understatement of the year. We've been planning this trip for almost 5 months. And by planning I mean a lot of getting excited and very little actual "planning". I've been drinking a lot of sangria and Spanish wines. We've gone out for tapas. And Moroccan food. You know, all of the important prep work. Aaaaaand, we've been taking a conversational Spanish class. I know a lot of people will speak English, but we'd be losers if we didn't try to speak Spanish. Yo estoy hablando Espanol!

Our last Spanish class was last night. The class was held at a junior high school. Yesterday was the last day of classes for the acutal school, and someone forgot that there were night classes there and agreed to let the local SWAT team use the school for practice. It was weird enough walking to our class and coming around corners and seeing guns pointed at us, but it was even weirder when, halfway through class, the door was kicked open and one of the SWAT guys "shot" our teacher. (Obviously, there was no bullet involved and the "shot" was just a "click". )

Aaaaanyway, the planning. Aside from the language and eating/drinking aspects, we've planned a sort of general itinerary. We've booked hotels for the first 3 nights we're there, and the last 2 nights, but left the middle wide open. We don't want to be tied down to a schedule. We have an idea of where we'll be on which dates, but if we decide to take a detour or lengthen our stay here or there, we want to be able to do that. Chris' must-see place is Seville. (And yes, we did just go to the opera a couple of weeks ago to see "The Barber of Seville", but it was just coincidence, I assure you.) My must-see place is the Costa del Sol (Meditteranean!) and Morocco. I have two. I cheated.

So we're flying into Madrid and immediately catching another flight down to the Southern Coast. We're going to spend a few days down then, then take a ferry over to Africa and spend a couple of days in Morocco. We'll come back to the Southern Coast and take a bus (or we might rent a car) up to Seville, and spend a few of days there. Then we'll head back up to Madrid (by train, probably) and spend a few days there before we leave. We'll then fly to New York City, which I'm soooooo excited about!! I've never been to New York City, and I've wanted to go for as long as I can remember.

But mostly I'm just excited to have 2 weeks, 2 glorious, uninterrupted-by-work weeks to spend with my Chris. We have very similar vacationing styles. Neither of us likes resort-y type vacations too much, but would rather go somewhere where we can see some historical sites, explore on our own, and dp a little relaxing. Which is exactly what I intend to do for the next two weeks. Adios!
