Feeling Fall

We're going through a cool spell in Salt Lake City. It's a mere 74 degrees as I right this, which after a hot summer feels downright chilly. The highs predicted for the next few days are in the upper 80s and lower 90s - not very high for summer here. We have slept with our bedroom windows open since sometime in May (we don't have air conditioning) and this morning I woke up freezing. We haven't had more than just a sheet on our bed since June, and at 4am I woke up and got (okay, Chris got it) a blanket to put on the bed. It was 55 degrees when we left for work, and that, my friends, is downright fall-like.

I'm feeling all nostalgic and nest-y, thinking back to when we bought our house in fall of last year. I never got that nest-y feeling when I bought my condo in Summer of 2002, probably because, while my condo was home, I was young and single and it was more of a party house than a home. When I think of my condo I think of drunken nights in the pool, jagermeister, and talking with our friends and my roommates on the balcony until the middle of the night. When I think of our house, I think of our garden, our enormous trees, bread in the oven, nightly dinners at the table, and sitting on a blanket in the front yard (in the summer) or snuggling on our sofa (in the winter) and watching the people walk by our front window. And, of course, the occasional drunken night with friends. I don't think those will ever be a thing of the past.

The onset of fall (or this brief cool spell) actually feels pretty good, it always has. Although summer is my favorite season, I always feel the most content in the fall. I love wearing a jacket, seeing the leaves change and fall, and anticipating the first snowfall. The change of seasons is such a magical thing, I truly think I would have a hard time living somewhere where they were less pronounced. There are few things I love more than sitting in a cozy house watching the snow fall.

That being said, I'm going to go and sit outside with a glass of wine while I still can.
