Arts Festy Fun

The baseball game was fun, and I did not make an ass of myself in front of my coworkers. I was nothing but delightful. The Bees, however, we not. They lost.

So Chris and I have recently been talking about how we are having trouble keeping our house as clean as we would like to. It's bigger than my old condo (where we used to live) by a thousand or so square feet, and there is also a yard and garden to take care of. So we've reverted to making a spreadsheet, which is what we did at the condo when we first moved in together, to help us get into the groove. It's a grid, where chores are listed along the "y" axis and weeks are listed along the "x" axis, and each box contains and "A" for Ami, a "C" for Chris, or an "AC" for both of us. You probably think that this was my idea, but it wasn't. Chris came up with it, and I scoffed, but it really proved to be very helpful. There will be lots of cleaning this weekend!

It won't be all cleaning, though, as it's Arts Fest weekend!!!!!!!! The happiest weekend of the year!!!!! The Arts Fest is just damn good fun. It's so nice to be outside, drinking beer, listening to bands, and wandering around art booths. We are going to walk down there later tonight, and again tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning we are going to get up early to walk to the farmer's market. We then have a plumber coming to auger our sewer lines, and after that we will go to the Arts Festival for the rest of the day/night.

Sunday is probably when we'll get most of our cleaning done, and then Sunday night we are going to the zoo for a "sneak peak" at their new cat house, where all of the big cats will be living from now on. I'm excited to see it.

Buy Me Some Peanuts and Cracker Jacks

We are getting ready to (read: fixin' to) leave to go and watch the Salt Lake Bees play some baseball. We have season tickets, but we got tickets through our job for tonight, so that we could sit with our friends from work. Which seemed like a good idea at the time, but now seems like a bad idea, being that it's "Thirsty Thursday" at the Bees game. Two dollar beers, all night. John (my friend from work, remember?) suggested that this night might be remembered for all eternity as "the night that Indian chick in software got really drunk and did [insert stupid thing here] at the baseball game!" I should be dedicating my evening to making sure that doesn't happen, but I think I'll dedicate it to drinking cheap beer, instead.

I'm back!

We got into town on Sunday, and have spent the last few days getting our shit together. It's good to be back. Our garden flourished while we were gone, and we have baby tomatoes and cabbages that are ready to harvest. We also have one (just one!) jalapeno that is ready to eat. It was wonderful to see the cats. They missed us, and have been ultra clingy since we've been back.

The trip was incredible. My thirst for travel has only been fueled, instead of quenched. Luckily for you, I took a thousand pictures (almost literally) and kept a travel log, so I'll post a trip recap as soon as I'm settled in.

Tomorrow night we are going to a baseball game, and then we have the Utah Arts Fest all weekend to look forward to. We'll also go to the farmer's market on Saturday morning, before the plumber comes over to blade our sewer lines. The joys of owning a home in a neighborhood with tons of full grown trees. (We have 7 on our property alone.) The tree roots grow into your sewer lines, slowing everything down, so you have to get someone to run an auger through the lines, to cut through the tree roots. The trees are so worth it, though.

Two Words: Meditteranean Waters

I should be packing, but I don't feel like it. We leave at 11pm tonight, so I've got time. I don't know how much I've talked about our vacation here, because I've only been posting sporadically over the past few months. Basically, we're going to be gone for just over 2 weeks, spending 10 days or so in Spain and Morocco, and then spending 6 days in New York City on our way back.

To say I am excited is the understatement of the year. We've been planning this trip for almost 5 months. And by planning I mean a lot of getting excited and very little actual "planning". I've been drinking a lot of sangria and Spanish wines. We've gone out for tapas. And Moroccan food. You know, all of the important prep work. Aaaaaand, we've been taking a conversational Spanish class. I know a lot of people will speak English, but we'd be losers if we didn't try to speak Spanish. Yo estoy hablando Espanol!

Our last Spanish class was last night. The class was held at a junior high school. Yesterday was the last day of classes for the acutal school, and someone forgot that there were night classes there and agreed to let the local SWAT team use the school for practice. It was weird enough walking to our class and coming around corners and seeing guns pointed at us, but it was even weirder when, halfway through class, the door was kicked open and one of the SWAT guys "shot" our teacher. (Obviously, there was no bullet involved and the "shot" was just a "click". )

Aaaaanyway, the planning. Aside from the language and eating/drinking aspects, we've planned a sort of general itinerary. We've booked hotels for the first 3 nights we're there, and the last 2 nights, but left the middle wide open. We don't want to be tied down to a schedule. We have an idea of where we'll be on which dates, but if we decide to take a detour or lengthen our stay here or there, we want to be able to do that. Chris' must-see place is Seville. (And yes, we did just go to the opera a couple of weeks ago to see "The Barber of Seville", but it was just coincidence, I assure you.) My must-see place is the Costa del Sol (Meditteranean!) and Morocco. I have two. I cheated.

So we're flying into Madrid and immediately catching another flight down to the Southern Coast. We're going to spend a few days down then, then take a ferry over to Africa and spend a couple of days in Morocco. We'll come back to the Southern Coast and take a bus (or we might rent a car) up to Seville, and spend a few of days there. Then we'll head back up to Madrid (by train, probably) and spend a few days there before we leave. We'll then fly to New York City, which I'm soooooo excited about!! I've never been to New York City, and I've wanted to go for as long as I can remember.

But mostly I'm just excited to have 2 weeks, 2 glorious, uninterrupted-by-work weeks to spend with my Chris. We have very similar vacationing styles. Neither of us likes resort-y type vacations too much, but would rather go somewhere where we can see some historical sites, explore on our own, and dp a little relaxing. Which is exactly what I intend to do for the next two weeks. Adios!
