Jelly Update
Okay, so the first batch of jelly turned out... well, I don't know how it turned out, because I haven't checked it yet, but making it was kind of a disaster. Let's just say that I don't know
where the purple stains in the grout of our backsplash came from. Ahem. I boiled the damn jelly over and it was a huge mess. I was unhappy with it, and I have no idea why, because I haven't even opened a jar to see what it looks like. But I got back on the jelly horse and made a second batch, which turned out perfectly. Or at least the jar we opened turned out perfectly. I'm sure all of the jars that we've given to other people are gross and disgusting, because that's the way my life goes.
I have also decided that there is just way too much shit to do in the fall, what with all of the harvesting and preserving and yardwork and swamp-cooler-draining and trying to get the home improvment projects that I have to do outside (like stripping doors: lead paint fumes + inside = not good) done. This shit is for the birds. I just wanna watch football.
Speaking of football, I am currently winning my fantasy league. Yes! I am awesome.
In other news, I have a new niece! She was born on Friday night, and she and her family are doing splendidly. We will see them all for Thanksgiving. I can't wait.
Life in the Desert
It snowed here on Saturday. We woke up around 9am, and were chatting when I looked up at the skylight and saw snow on our roof! I looked out the window, and there was snow on all of the roofs (none on the ground, though). I can't believe that it snowed; our windows were open! I love living in the desert. You never know what you're going to get. Random. It's going to be 77 degrees tomorrow.
We were busy this weekend. We hung out with Jesse and Sharon on Friday night. On Saturday, we went to the Utah State Fair and saw a play. On Sunday we went to church and then harvested at least 5 gallons of grapes. I made grape juice, went wedding dress shopping with Steph, and sewed on a shirt that I'm making for Chris. I also got some fabric to make a duvet cover out of a sheet that I brought back from India in 2004. Yeah, I know, I got right on that.
I got a sewing machine for my birthday (from Chris), and I decided to start with a simple shirt. But it's not simple, and the pattern is a son-of-a-bitch. Steph helped me decipher some stuff that didn't make any sense, so maybe it'll be done in time for him to wear it during retirement. It
is a Hawaiian shirt.
The grapes from our yard are delish and plentiful, but they're concord grapes, so they're not so great for eating alone. The outsides are sweet and tasty, but the insides are tart. I made juice, which is so tasty, but, it only took about a third of the grapes, and we probably have a gallon of juice. So tonight I'm going to bite it and actually
can something. I'm going to make grape jelly. Wish me luck!
Happy Birthday To Me!!
I am 27 years old today. Thank you to everyone who has wished me well today!
