Is It Wrong?

That I can name all nine members of the Wu-Tang Clan but can't even name half of the nine Supreme Court justices?

Happy Birthday, Stephanie!!!!

Today my best friend turns 30. Woah. I think Steph was 14 when our friendship crossed into Very Good Friends territory. We have been friends for over half our lives. I'm not sure how a friendship survives that long, but I'm so glad that it has. Now we're all grown up; we are old married ladies. But it is so nice to be able to have someone to call and reminisce with about things that happened 15 years ago. I know I'm really lucky to have that. I hope we're friends for at least another 15 years.

I was up at 7:30am on Saturday morning to go to the gym. What is this world coming to?

Losing My Mind

Last night I went to FIVE different grocery stores looking for a couple of eggplants. (And on a related note, why do I pick the worst days to wear stilettos?) When did my life get so exciting? It's hard to pinpoint, it has been such a whirlwind, really.

Would you even think that there are FIVE grocery stores within a 1 mile radius of each other? Well there are. Witness!

How much food does one valley need? A lot, apparently. Store A (Smith's) had eggplants, but they were brown and sickly and generally Not Well. Stores B (Albertson's) and C (Wild Oats) had them, but for $4 each. Are you serious? Store D (another Smith's) didn't have them at all. But I was rewarded for my insanity persistence at Store E (yet another Smith's Food King), where I scored healthy looking eggplants for a respectable $1.69 each.

The highlight of my night was when (at store D) a guy with 3 teeth told me that my shoes (pointy-toed stiletto boots) were going to give me bunions. Was that a pick-up line?

Just Call Me Urbandictionary.com

But on the plus side, I invented a new word on Sunday.

Recheer

It's when you are watching a sporting event on television, and something good happens, and you cheer. And then they replay it, and you cheer again. You recheer.

Big Fat Emo Frowny Face :(

The Chargers, they lost. I didn't have the heart or the energy to scrub away my Chargers temporary tattoos this morning, so I had to wear a high-necked, long-sleeved shirt to work today.

Things On My Mind Today, In No Particular Order

* My evening. We have errands to run and we need to clean, but we could also stand to go to the gym. I went last night while Chris was at school, so I guess I could skip and run errands while he works out. But I don't think I'll get a chance to go again until Monday, so maybe I should go tonight instead of taking 3 days off in a row.

* Our finances. We are seeing our accountant 3 weeks from today, and I'm dying to know if we're going to get anything back. We got a lot back last year, so we changed our withholdings. But we are also going to be filing married this year, so who knows what changes that will bring. I'm going to go on record as guessing that we'll get about $3,000 back.

* When we're going to start "trying" to have a baby. There are so many factors, including the aforementioned finances, Chris being in school and potential vacation plans. We're both excited at the prospect of being parents, but we are also both very content people. We're fine with the way things are. This is what happens when two youngest children get married. Nothing gets decided or accomplished, ever. It's just one vacation after another.

* The Chargers game on Sunday. I'm so excited and nervous and I'll be so terribly sad if they don't go to the Super Bowl. My sister-in-law is getting into town on Sunday morning, so I'll be watching the game at a bar with her, Chris, Jesse, and probably some others like Joanna. I bet a guy at work $10 on the game, and if I win he's gonna throw in a Snickers Ice Cream bar.

* Our house. There are some super cute houses for sale around here right now, and at some point we have to decide to stay in our house and sink some money into it (removing some old wall heaters and redoing some walls and the upstairs bathroom) or to move. Moving is complicated for us because we have tenants in the other side (it is a duplex) and I don't know how we'd go about handling that.

Pictures from the Uintas! Lots Of Exclamation Points!!

This is the yurt from a distance. Can you see it?

And here is it up close!

And even closer!

This is what it looked like on the inside. There was also a 2-burner stove and a fireplace. I spared you a photo of the outhouse, which was about 20 yards away and smelled like mice poop.

Look at this ginormous tree!!

So much untouched snow! Bright sunny day! Amazing!

Someone (not us) built an igloo. There was another, more roomy one a few feet away from this one.

And just to show you that I'm as immature as ever...

OH MY GOD

Did you SEE the Chargers game yesterday?????? I can't believe that they beat the Colts. I could not be more excited for this Sunday. If the Chargers beat the Patriots I will DIE from happiness.

So how was your weekend? I had Friday off so I went skiing at Alta. It was a crazy snowy day, visibility was like, 5 feet. I don't have goggles, either, so by the time I would finish a run I had icicles on my eyelashes. It was fun, but I need to get some goggles ASAP.

I slept in on Saturday, and then had grand plans to Get Stuff Done. I was on errand number one when Jo called to see if we wanted to come and watch the Packers game, which of course we did. We watched that game and the one after it, and returned to the same bar at 11am on Sunday to watch the other 2 playoff games. So I pissed away my weekend drinking beer and watching football, but it has been a long time since I've done that so I don't feel too badly. And at least I got to go skiing.

The Yurt pictures! Despite a degree in computer science I can't get these damn pictures on my blog. I know, I know, soon. Right now I'm busy getting my shit together for tomorrow's Community Council meeting. It will be the first one at which I will be performing my secretarial duties. I managed to get the agendas out on time, although they were less than spectacular, but tomorrow is the first time I have to take minutes and whatnot. I'm actually kind of nervous, which is all kinds of ridiculous, but there you have it.

So This Is What Winning A Playoff Game Is Like

I spent yesterday at Jesse and Sharon's house watching my Chargers play football. And they WON!!!!!!! This is the first time that the Chargers have won a playoff game in the entire time that I've been a fan. So like, 8 or 9 years. They've been in the playoffs two other times, but both times they choked, or should I say Nate Kaeding choked. Kaeding went to the University of Iowa, so it's like a double knife in the heart when he fucks up.

What I would like to see this year is the New York Giants and the Chargers in the Super Bowl, and I would like the Chargers to win and I would like Eli Manning to cry. Back in 2004, the Chargers drafted Eli Manning, who then essentially refused to play for them. What kind of shitty ass attitude is that? Bloom where you are planted, Eli Manning. GodDAMN. So anyway, I would very much like the Chargers to beat Eli Manning's team in the Super Bowl. And I would like Eli Manning to cry. Did I already mention that?

Happy New Year

The yurt trip was great. It was so beautiful in the Unitas, and I'm so glad that we went. Snowshoeing was really fun, and we didn't run out of beer.

I'm having trouble posting pictures right now, but as soon as I resolve that I'll put up a few. Happy new year!
